Pretty neat. I used to have a gigantic wallchart of these back in 1995, and it's fun to think back and recall the differences.

An interesting writeup of the realities (or lack of information thereof) of DPI. Which is still something I'm amazed to see being considered as feasible given the risk of false positives with new protocols.

Every time I see one of these come along, I immediately think of it as _another_ solution in search of a problem - in fact, I wonder why people keep trying to reinvent this particular wheel, since It isn't as if it hasn't been done before - the most public I can remember (and there were "many more":Disclaimer that I've seen - and opposed - over the years) was "Google Web Accelerator":Google/Web_Accelerator, which, thankfully, "died a quiet death":http://webaccelerator.google.com/. It seems that everyone (and I really mean everyone) in the industry has to have a go at breaking "the Eleventh Commandment":blog/2004/04/24, when all it ever adds up to is unnecessary trouble, complexity, and a sub-par user experience (especially in this day and age of server-side "HTTP":HTTP optmization and @gzip@ compression. But hey, if you're still on dial-up, be my guest.

I used to have a gigantic wall chart with all the transoceanic lines and peering points back when most of these were clocked at megabit speeds, and these guys go and lay down one that can go up to 7 _terabits_...
